This board contains two worker placement locations where each player can only send one worker per round. Newleaf adds a Station board, visitor cards, and new cards to be shuffled into the special event, forest, and main decks. They however do not use regular occupied tokens to be played into buildings for free but golden tokens.

If you are looking to bring a bit more variation to lower player count games of Everdell, then Newleaf is really a need rather than a recommend. You can discard cards equal to one of the types to get points, this means if you wait and get more you can get more points but you are risking others taking the cards from you which gives a nice push and pull.
